| During
the rounds each couple will dance two pieces of music picked in random from
the following lists. The music will be restricted to a maximum of 2 minutes
and a 10 second warning will be given before the music is faded.
The selection of music has been chosen to enable the dancers to show
off their skills at the various extremes of Jive tempos. The music is
in a mixture of styles, which will also test the adaptability of the dancers
to be able to perform in different idioms, from the silky smoothness of
Dusty Springfield to the hard driving R&B of the Love Dogs. In addition
each piece has some substance, with breaks & feels to allow musicality
to be demonstrated.
These were the rules used in the selection:
a) Music in slow section is to be between 110 - 120 bpm
b) Music in the fast section is to be between 150 - 160 bpm
c) Music must be well known on the dance circuit
d) Music must have scope for musicality
e) Music must cover as many different styles as possible

Further Note:
The type of music that people like is varied and no-one person is likely
to be happy with every track in this list. However this is irrelevant
for the purposes of this selection, as this is not a social dance list
and has been compiled to enable to test and show off the abilities of
the competitors.
It should also be noted that there are no current Chart tracks in the
list. This was considered at length but the latest trend in music is for
modern "R&B" which falls outside the tempo ranges at about
100bpm. The club versions of these records are all around the 130 -140
bpm level which again falls outside our selection criteria. To cover this
gap the music in the final will included a section for dance tracks in
the range 125 -140 bpm.
