What is it?
There are many dance competitions around but there has never been one
where all the winners and highly placed dancers have competed against
each other, until JiveMasters! The first in 2003 was so sucessful, we
just had to do it again.
The Jive Masters is a rolling competition with up to five competitors
in the heats each month dancing to be in
2004 Grand Final at Walthamstow Town Hall.
All of the competitors are, by the fact that they have won competitions
in Modern Jive, very well known. They include teachers, professionals
and just other great dancers who dance for fun.
This year there is also the Mini Masters
open to everyone.
Many of the competitors are on the dance circuit performing cabarets,
delighting crowds where ever they appear. Each month the winner will be
guaranteed a place in a Final. The ultimate winning couple will receive
large cash prizes and will be the undisputed Jive Masters of the year.
How does it work
The heats will be held on the last Sunday
of every month (May, June, July, August, September and October). The competition
forms part of a regular Ceroc night, so there will be the normal beginners
and intermediate classes followed by the competition then an hour and
a half of freestyle.
The competitors will dance freestyle to two pieces of music, one slow
then one fast. The music which they will dance to will be drawn from a
hat. See below for the music that will be in the hat.
Effectively for you, four individual cabarets.
You will be able to enjoy the excitement of the competition by taking
on the most crucial role of any competition - judging.
In all competitions it is this one major element that gives rise to hours
of debate and disagreement mainly by the audience who may often disagree
with the results. Well, again what makes this a unique competition, is
that the audience makes the decisions. The audience will, upon arrival
at the venue, register to judge and receive a score card. The card will
have four separate categories for marking: Presentation, Music Interpretation,
Technique and complexity of the moves. The card will include an explanation
of what to do.
The judges will award marks out of 5 to each section. The totals will
be added, divided by the number of judges and a winner will be selected.
The finals will included all the winners
and a number of the highest scored runners up.
As a reward to you, the judge who selects the most winners and placed
competitors will win free lifetime entry to all CerocMetro venues and
freestyles. CerocMetro is currently expanding rapidly with more nights
and new venues, including Brighton. This prize could be worth thousands
of pounds to the winner, especially to the total danceaholic.
You do not have to be a judge, you can just come along and enjoy the
dancing.
The winners will be announced at the end of the evening before the last
two tracks are played.
Organisers
Jive Masters is sponsored and organised by the CerocMetro
Ceroc franchise in association with Nigel Anderson.
